White paper flyer with blue script and a blue and red torch logo in the top right corner. Banner reads “United Workers of Local 11 Campaign – Vote Tuesday, April 25” – followed by a letter addressed to “Brothers and Sisters of Local 11” signed by James Quinn, Daniel Ruiz, and Gail Cronyn. The bottom half of the flyer repeats the same in Spanish.

In 1978, members of the Hotel and Restaurant Employees union Local 11 challenged their union’s ban on non-citizen officers. One of their candidates was Daniel Ruiz, a resident immigrant and long-time union member. With help from the ACLU, they sued their union and won the right to stand for election. However, they did not defeat the sitting leadership.
